I Read It Before (And After) It Was a Movie
Each day, our newsfeeds blow up with items of more amazing sci-fi/fantasy books being optioned for film or TV, and bookstore shelves are filled with cinematic tie-in novels to geeky summer blockbusters. But what does it take to make the jump from page to screen, and back again? Authors explore the journey of stories from page (both prose and comics) to screen (multi-media) and even stage, and vice versa. Maybe this illustrious group will be able to answer the question of whether it really is better to read the book before seeing the movie! Ransom Riggs (Tales of the Peculiar), James Dashner (The Maze Runner), Melissa de la Cruz (The Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Prequel), Scott Westerfeld (Uglies, Zeroes), Ben H. Winters (Underground Airlines), and Comic-Con special guest Peter David engage in conversation with moderator Anthony Breznican of Entertainment Weekly

Production Designers of the Art Directors Guild Who Work in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Genre
The production designer reads 100 pages of nothing-but-words-on-paper and then must literally dream up the most perfect of all possible worlds in which the tale should take place. Though the story may be set in some mythic past, the here and now, or some nearly unimaginable future, it's always human emotion rendered in color and composition. And following that, the designer must gather and organize an army of artists who, over months or years, in plaster or in pixels, will somehow render that design for the big screen. Panelists are Dave Blass (Preacher), James Chinlund (War for the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Avengers), Sean Haworth (Deadpool), and Patrick Tatopoulos (Die Hard 4, Dark City, I, Robot). John Muto (Home Alone, Species) moderates.

Kevin Smith
What if you had a panel and the audience didn't show up? Kevin Smith can tell you what it's like: Last year, the clown prince of Comic-Con saw thousands of people abandon his annua Hall H talk for a once-in-a-lifetime outdoor Star Wars concert. But the plucky, portly director and podcaster is back to tell silly stories and talk about his new movie Yoga Hosers, his AMC Network shows Comic Book Men and Geeking Out, directing an episode of The Flash for The CW, his forthcoming Buckaroo Banzai adaptation, and the Mallrats sequel that's gonna be a TV series! You can't miss this perennial Hall H highlight (unless there's something way better going on at the same time, like a Star Wars concert).
