While the scientific accuracy depicted in television and film has increasingly come under the microscope in the past decade, science fiction and science-themed productions serve the scientific community in ways other than as entertaining lessons. Many scientists point to series like Star Trek and films like 2001 as their inspiration for choosing their careers. Even the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy is looking to Hollywood to inspire America to go to Mars. The panelists share their favorite sci-fi films and TV series (including guilty pleasures), as well as what those productions have meant to them in their careers.
